Little Whispers, Rani del Rosario Danac

Mysterious But Assuring

First Reading
IS 48:17-19

Thus says the LORD, your redeemer,
the Holy One of Israel:
I, the LORD, your God,
teach you what is for your good,
and lead you on the way you should go.
If you would hearken to my commandments,
your prosperity would be like a river,
and your vindication like the waves of the sea;
Your descendants would be like the sand,
and those born of your stock like its grains,
Their name never cut off
or blotted out from my presence.

Responsorial Psalm
PS 1:1-2, 3, 4 AND 6
R. (see John 8:12) Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.

Blessed the man who follows not
the counsel of the wicked
Nor walks in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the company of the insolent,
But delights in the law of the LORD
and meditates on his law day and night.
R. Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.
He is like a tree
planted near running water,
That yields its fruit in due season,
and whose leaves never fade.
Whatever he does, prospers.
R. Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.
Not so the wicked, not so;
they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
For the LORD watches over the way of the just,
but the way of the wicked vanishes.
R. Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.

MT 11:16-19

Jesus said to the crowds:
“To what shall I compare this generation?
It is like children who sit in marketplaces and call to one another,
‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance,
we sang a dirge but you did not mourn.’
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said,
‘He is possessed by a demon.’
The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said,
‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard,
a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’
But wisdom is vindicated by her works.”

“I, the LORD, your God, teach you what is for your good, and lead you on the way you should go.” (Isaiah 48:17)

A blockmate of mine and I love talking about life matters, mostly complaining about how ironic the world is. He would always tell me about how much he despised his life because of the bajillion rules that his mom had for him. Even more hating the fact that even if his mom lives all the way in New Yrok, being the mom that she is, she would often find out if my blockmate was following her rules or not. Whenever they get the chance to talk, they would just argue. He said it wasn’t talking at all, it was just plain arguing.

This blockmate of mine wasn’t very fond of praying, at least not anymore. One time, when we were about to eat, I prayed and noticed that he didn’t. So I told him, “Pray ka muna.” (Let’s pray first.) And he quickly replied, “Para san, no need.” (For what?) After that day, I would always remind and convince him to pray, even if he would often disregard my endless reminder and convincing.

One day he told me, “Uy nag punta ako sa Church kagabi.” (Hey, I went to Church last night.) In return, I asked “Oh, kamusta?” (How was it?) He said he didn’t really last a long time inside the church but when he went out, he somehow felt relieved, not knowing why. Without any reason in mind at all, he would go to Church every day after class. Every day until he eventually started praying and found comfort and peace.

Few weeks later, he told me he got to talk to his mom again. This time, it was different. They didn’t fight but rather, they were able to talk about matters calmly and they were able to resolve their issues as well. I told him, “Tignan mo, ilang weeks ka pa lang nag pupunta sa church pero okay na kayo ng mom mo.”(Would you look at that, you’ve been to the Church for how many weeks and you’re already okay with your mom.) After that, he told me about how much going to church made sense to him now.

Friends, we must learn how to follow God and His way even without fully understanding why, because in the end, His plan is always what’s best for us. It is far better than what we have imagined for ourselves. Right now, we may not know or understand why, but if it is according to His will, it is definitely what’s best for us.

Lord Jesus, thank you for always redirecting me into the path where you want me to be in even if I would often choose a different path. Teach me to follow Your way, for it is what is good for me. Help me walk by my faith and not by sight.
